Description · Château d'Issan

Château d'Issan 2006 (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot)

Chateau d'Issan (Margaux) 2006 (Cabernet Sauvignon 62% Merlot 38%)

This is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, accounts for 64% of the harvest, and will see 50% new oak. Picking began on October 1st, although most of the fruit for the grand vin was brought in between October 14th and 18th. Overall yield was just 28 hl/ha (for comparison, in 2007 it was 49 hl/ha). This has a much darker character than Blason, with aromas of roasted meats, nutty oak and smoky complexity. The palate is attractive and quite serious, with nice density, rich and ripe fruit, and good spice. Nice backbone, good length too. A good showing.

Château Issan 2006

Perfect with friends.
Cherry colour with brown edges. Light aromas of raisins. Compared to other Margaux it was rough.
I took it on a barbecue.

Château d'Issan 2013 also offers lovely notes of red and black fruits, on a background rather floral, with silty suspicion.

Château d'Issan is one of the oldest properties in the Margaux appellation. The wine was served at the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine, is the twelfth century. The Latin motto of Château d'Issan is "Regium mensis aris that deorum" ie "For the table of the Kings and the altar of the Gods."
Located in the commune of Cantenac, the 53 hectares of Issan extend in the heart of the appellation, just a few hundred meters from the famous Château Margaux well, which speaks volumes about the quality of its soil. The vines of the vineyard is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot 35%.

Château d'Issan 2012 is a blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, which is mature to give the wine depth and delicacy. It also offers beautiful notes of red and black fruits, on a background rather floral, with silty suspicion.

The 2011 vintage has a beautiful purple dress. It is a well constructed wine, with a tangy frame that gives it a nice shine. In the mouth, there is a nice roundness to woody notes. Its charm lies especially in its final stretched and well integrated tannins.
