BODEGA: Winery and Vineyards Bernabeleva
The 2015 Carril del Rey takes its name from a south-facing, 4.5-hectare plot of Garnacha at 700 meters altitude that always achieves high maturity (but even so in this warm 2015, the bottled wine is only 14.35% alcohol). The vines were planted some 75 years ago, and the same as all their vineyards, they are farmed organically. The full clusters fermented with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in used oak barrels of different sizes for one year. The vinification and élevage is basically the same for all these wines. The wine might have been suffering from the very recent bottling, and the nose was not as precise as the 2014. Here the grapes ripened faster because of the higher temperatures; the tannins are not as refined as those from the 2015, and there is a touch of rusticity. Lovely wine, but the 2014 won my heart. 2015 was a larger crop, and there is another part of the vineyard that also made it into the blend this year, so 2,000 bottles were filled in April 2017.View more
