For two centuries, the Blandy family has been part of the wine trade. Among all of the initial founders of the Madeira wine market, the Blandy family is now proud to be the only to retain ownership of their own winery. Blandy's was founded in 1811 and quickly began to produce and export their unique Madeira wine all over the world. Now run by the sixth generation of the family, the company continues to craft and advertise Madeira as one of the best wines in the world.

True Madeira wine can only be made on the volcanic island of Madeira, which lies in the Atlantic Ocean and forms part of the Portuguese Republic. To make Blandy's Rainwater Medium Dry Madeira, Tinta Negra grapes are harvested from the northern side of the island. They are fermented in stainless steel tanks before this fermentation is halted through the introduction of grape brandy, to ensure that some of the natural sweetness of the grapes is retained.

Next comes the part which makes Madeira so special. The spirit is transferred to tanks where it is heated and cooled in a specially-controlled process for three months. Then the wine is aged in American oak casks for three years before being released. Blandy's Rainwater Medium Dry Madeira is a pale wine that is best enjoyed chilled either as an aperitif or paired with the dessert of your choice.
