Description of St-Germain

St-Germain

TASTING NOTES:

  • Colour: St-Germain has a pale complexion, light amber colour with golden hues.
  • Aroma: Delicate bouquet full of floral fragrances, lilies, jasmine, and grapefruit. Subtle hints of peach nectar and sweet blossom complete the set of aromas.
  • Taste: Subtle and fresh on the palate, with sweet notes of pear, elderflower, elderberries, and a little tangy citrus touch. The finish is long, fresh, and balanced.

PRODUCER: St-Germain.

COUNTRY: France.

PRODUCTION DETAILS: St-Germain is the first 100% natural elderflower liqueur in the world. The amazing pale gold colour is obtained from pollen, and each Art Deco inspired bottle contains up to 1000 elderflower blossoms, carefully handpicked once a year in the late spring. Selecting only the most pristine and perfect blossoms, the flowers are macerated with warm water to preserve all the aromas and flavours before being decanted and filtered to remove all stems and solid residues. Finally, the elixir is artfully blended with eau-de-vie de vin, water, sugar, and neutral grain spirit, and a magic drop of old French charm to obtain the desired spirit. Captivating and extraordinary, this expression matches well with all kinds of spirit, but is absolutely perfect mixed with Champagne and a touch of soda water. Simply fantastic.

- Robert Cooper is a third generation distiller, entrepreneur and creator of liquor brands - best known for building/creating Chambord Raspberry Liqueur.
- Rob has been working on creating a high quality elderflower liqueur since 2002 when he realised what an important cocktail ingredient the non-alcoholic elderflower cordials were becoming in London.
- Handpicked small white blossoms from the French Alps where elder bushes grow abundantly were preferred for the maceration. Hungarian and Romanian gypsies trawl the mountain-sides to handpick the small white blossoms.
- St. Germain's packaging reflects the artisan nature of its production. The shapely eight-sided bottle was created as a tribute to the vibrant art deco period in St. Germain. Each is finished with a heavy stopper and individually numbered and marked with the vintage year.
- Why the name? On his frequent trips to the Alps and distillery while developing the liqueur, Rob Cooper would fly in and out of Paris. On the way he fell in love with Saint-Germain-des-Pres and its cafes.
