Bodega El Grifo (Lanzarote)
Product not available in United States
El Grifo, meaning the gryphon, is home to the oldest bodega in the Canary Islands, which is also one of the oldest wineries in Spain as a whole. This company owns 40 hectares of vineyards on Lanzarote, in the Spanish Canary Islands. This land is extremely fertile due to the two volcanic eruptions that occurred in 1730 and 1736. These eruptions left the island covered in lava and ash. Thanks to the volcanic soil, the vineyards here are quite unique and beautiful.
The winery's oldest wine press dates back to 1775, making this company more than 240 years old. From that extensive experience, the company has provided us with El Grifo Malvasia Seco Coleccion 2017. This is just one wine from the collection of fine wines offered by the El Grifo winery. To make it, the Malvasía Volcánica grapes are manually harvested from the volcanic terrain before being cooled and vinified. The finished wine is left on the lees to provide additional complexity.
If you prefer your wines on the drier side, this young white wine might be just what you need. It gives off beautiful aromas of flowers and fruit that are sure to pique your appetite while its complexity on your tongue is sure to make you return for more. Try this award-winning wine alongside fish or other types of seafood. It is also wonderful alongside appetizers or other snacks.
