Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Nicasia (Malbec)
TASTING NOTES:
- View: Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Nicasia is a deep-purple-coloured wine.
- Nose: On the nose, Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Nicasia is showing ripe black currant, raspberries, cloves, vanilla, cedar and red currant notes.
- Mouth: This is a very complex Malbec, with flavours of blueberries, cassis, vanilla and spice. The wine is full-bodied, with medium acidity, ripe tannins and a long spice finish.
APPELLATION: La ConsultaVINEYARD: Bodega Catena Zapata. Nicasia Vineyard is located in La Consulta District in Uco Valley, Mendoza in Argentina.It is known for its shallow loamy soil with gravel surface that provides optimal drainage, so much needed by the vines.
GRAPES: 100% Malbec
AGEING: Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Nicasia was aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. After bottling, it was aged for another 24 months before release.
PREPARATION: The grapes are hand-picked. The fermentation is done in 225-550 litters new French oak barrels. It lasted 15 days, and was temperature controlled throughout the entire process. Gentle cap management was done several times to ensure crucial flavours and tannins extraction. Malolactic fermentation was also done after which the wine was left to age in barrels. Bottling was done without filtration.
PAIRING: Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Nicasia pairs perfectly with roasted veal, beef, venison, mushrooms and other heavy meaty dishes.
RECOMMENDED SERVING TEMPERATURE: 15-17°C

In 1994, Nicolas and his team were confident they had identified the best lots for growing Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. First, Jose Galante, winemaker since 1975, bottling a small cut grapes from the oldest and most uniform batches of Uxmal vineyard (which later was called because of its location Agrelo vineyard in the district of Agrelo). 300 cases were divided wine Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon.
