You will like to know that…
Licor Beirão is a Portuguese liqueur whose recipe is a closely guarded secret. Its name, Beirão, means "from Beira", which was one of the six original comarcas in medieval Portugal. Now contained mostly within the Centro region, Beira remains a famous Portuguese demarcated wine region.
Originally formulated as a cure for stomach aches, this seed, plant, and spice-based spirit uses a wide range of products from all over the world to achieve its unique flavour. Some of these 13 special products are grown and harvested in Quinta do Meiral - the home of the liqueur - while others are sourced from Sri Lanka, India, Brazil, Turkey, and Malaysia, among others. After a minimum of three weeks' distillation, the spirit is distilled, rested, and then bottled.
This sweet, topaz-coloured spirit gives off the flavour of cinnamon, rosemary, and eucalyptus with a touch of bitterness that keeps the sweetness from being overwhelming. The ribbon on the neck of the bottle is still tied by hand before this award-winning spirit is deemed ready to travel the world. Perfect for enjoying as a digestif (it was invented to cure stomach ailments, after all), this drink is also great straight or on the rocks. It can also be used in a number of exciting cocktails, such as the delicious strawberry Morangão.
