More widely distributed abroad than in Germany, Jägermeister is a liqueur made from 56 medicinal plants that has evolved over time with its fruity and spicy taste. The recipe was invented in 1934 by Curt Mast but he would not sell it until a year later. This liqueur was sold only for therapeutic purposes, mainly to calm coughs and treat digestive disorders. The image of a beverage for the elderly having settled down a little, an advertising campaign in the 1990s will give it a new lease of life.
Each 1.75-litre Jägermeister bottle comes with a hand pump to serve the shooters. On the bottle we can see a deer head surmounted by a cross. Jägermeister means hunter's master; the deer's head recalls the legend of Saint Hubertus, who converted when he saw a deer carrying a luminous cross between his antlers.
Produced in Germany by Mast-Jägermeister SE, the following ingredients are among the 56 ingredients that make up this liqueur: poppy seeds, paradise seeds, liquorice, cinnamon, star anise, saffron, citrus peels, ginger, green cardamom, cloves, orange peels, ginseng and juniper berries. The other ingredients are kept secret. They are all crushed together and then macerated in a mixture of water and alcohol in 10,000-litre oak barrels for 2 to 3 days and the product is bottled at 35°C.

- Colour: This drink has a dark amber-gold colouring. From inside the bottle, it is difficult to tell its true colour, but it is made clear once it is poured into the class.
- Aroma: Stark notes of anise, the primary flavour of black liquorice, stands out the most from this drink. Additional scents of methol, cloves, and cinnamon add extra depth to this drink.
- Taste: This drink is bittersweet in the mouth as the large variety of botanicals meld together on the tongue. Like the scent, the primary flavour is of anise. Spiced and earth flavours also add heat and sweetness to this drink. This liqueur is best drunk chilled or on ice. The most popular drink made with Jager is a Jaeger bomb, which is made by adding a shot of Jager to a can of Red Bull.
PRODUCER: The recipe for Jager was first crafted in 1878 in Wolfenbuttel, Germany. Curt Mast was the first to make the recipe, and it has not changed since. Currently, Mr. Fritz is the master distiller.
PRODUCTION DETAILS: This drink is made with 56 unique botanicals. After the drink is fermented and the botanicals are added, the drink ages in Oak barrels. They may age up to a year before being bottled.
