In the Middle Ages, the château of Cantemerle, seat of the jurisdiction of the same name, bordered the Garonne River and made up part of the line of fortifications that defended the banks of the Médoc region, just over half a mile from the present château.

The terroir of Château Cantemerle is typical wine appellation Haut Médoc. The area covers the fine gravel of the Gironde estuary. These poor draining soils and have the characteristic of reflecting the sun in the day and return the heat accumulated overnight. This results in concentrated grape that give wines with complex aromas and typical. The vines of Chateau Cantemerle is the 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. After harvesting, the grapes are sorted by hand and each plot is fermented separately in wooden vats oak. The grapes are then carefully selected to be assembled in a classified growth premium. The castle Cantemerle 2012 was seen as a rating of 89-91 / 100 by Robert Parker and 16 to 16.5 / 20 Bettane and Desseauve.

The intense colour, the concentration and the maturity of the tannins together with the acidity represent the main elements of a wine to keep.
The hue is intense and colourful. The nose expresses notes of charcoal and blackberry. It is serious and sappy at the same time. A hint of violet brings a more tasty touch on the mouth which expresses a harmonious volume. The tannins are present on the mid-palate, offering a nice structure, then leaving room for a tasty and silky finish.
