Whitley Neill Rhubarb & Ginger Gin: The taste of an English country garden with a tart crisp edge.
Whilst most of Johnny Neill's inspiration for his award-winning Gins comes from his ancestor's intrepid exploits abroad, this Rhubarb & Ginger Gin harks from fond memories made slightly closer to home. Post-war, the Whitley Family, now settled into rural England near Daresbury, cultivated their garden with thrilling flavours, serving as inspiration for their experimentation with new Gins. Johnny's latest Gin evokes childhood memories of visiting his grandparents on their farm by taking rhubarb, a firm Whitley family favourite, and mixing it with a warm twist of fresh ginger.
Whitley Neill Rhubarb & Ginger Gin
- Appearance: Clear.
- Aroma: As the name implies, Whitley Neill Rhubarb & Ginger Gin smells primarily of tangy rhubarb and spicy ginger. As a gin, one of the other primary botanicals that influences the smell is juniper. Subtle citrus aromas are also present.
- Taste: The flavour of this beverage matches up well with its scent profile. Again, the dominant botanical flavours come from ginger, rhubarb, and juniper. The other botanicals in this glass that have a slight influence on its flavour include coriander seed, liquorice, cassia bark, sweet orange, orris root, lemon, and angelica root. On the tongue, the drink is warm, carrying that warmth down the throat. It has a wonderfully long finish.
PRODUCER: The Neill family has run the Whitley Neill Distillery since 1762 and continues to run it to this day. All the beverages made at this distillery use a 100% grain spirit base with the addition of botanicals.
