Description of Tanqueray No. Ten 1L
Tanqueray No. Ten 1L
- Colour: This drink is entirely clear.
- Aroma: As with all gins, the primary scent of this drink is of juniper. Other botanicals add to the scent, providing notes of citrus fruits, chamomile, and coriander.
- Taste: Like with the scent, the primary flavour comes from juniper. The secondary flavour, which is not as common for gins, comes from citrus fruits like orange and grapefruit. Spices of coriander and chamomile fill the background. With its above-average alcohol content, it may burn a little as it goes down. It tastes best when used in a gin a tonic.
PRODUCER: Charles Tanquery first started making the original recipe in 1830, in London. The family owned and operated the distillery until most of their buildings were destroyed in WWII. Now, the distillery is operated in Scotland. Tanqueray is owned by the British company, Diageo.
PRODUCTION DETAILS: Tanquery first started making its No. Ten in 2000. It gets its name from the fact that the gin is distilled in its copper "Tiny Ten" still. For this reason, the No. Ten is made in smaller batches than their original Tanquery gin. Once a neutral spirit is made, the botanicals are added. The primary botanical is juniper. One special thing about this recipe is that it uses citrus juices, rather than citrus peels. This gives the drink a fresh flavour.
