Description of Luxardo Sour Cherry Gin
Luxardo Sour Cherry Gin
TASTING NOTES:
- Colour: Luxardo Sour Cherry Gin is a deep scarlet colour, giving just a hint of the beautiful cherry flavour to come.
- Aroma: The underlying aroma of gin is outshined by the starring smells of cherry, juniper, almond, and jam.
- Taste: Like any gin, the taste of juniper hits first, carrying along with it the associated spices of gin. Then, the velvety flavour of Marasca cherries takes over. This leaves a pleasantly sour aftertaste and a lasting sensation on the tongue.
PRODUCER: Girolamo Luxardo S.p.A.
COUNTRY: Italy
PRODUCTION DETAILS: To create Luxardo Sour Cherry Gin, Luxardo's Marasca cherry juice is added to the company's own London Dry Gin. Distilled in traditional copper stills, the nine botanicals used in this classic gin are juniper, coriander, cinnamon, iris, angelica, sedge, liquorice, cardamom, and bitter orange. Marasca cherry juice is then infused into this gin distillate, resulting in a fresh, rich gin that is neither over-sweet or over-sour. The cherry flavour does not overwhelm and moves aside to allow the juniper and the other gin botanicals to come through as well. Each bottle carries an artisanal label straight out of 19th-century Italy, marking the history of the company and giving this gin a unique appearance. The deep, blood-red colour and rich flavour that consumers have come to expect from Luxardo also set it apart from its peers.
