Description of Hepple Gin
- Colour: Hepple Gin is brightly transparent.
- Aroma: Gently spicy with plenty of fresh juniper character, underpinned by notes of citrus, fir, and herbs.
- Taste: Opens with lemon zest, lovage, melon, and pine needle, then a classic gin middle with subtle hints of celery and fennel seed grows into a strong, medium-length juniper finish with echoes of lemon and liquorice.
PRODUCER: Moorland Spirit Co. is the creation of a group of friends who shared the desire to make a beautiful gin drawing from the natural plenty and beauty of the landscape of northern England. The producer is continually experimenting with local flora to create unique and natural tipples which are an expression of both the terrain and the artisanal skills of the makers. This includes, for example, a Douglas Fir Vodka.
COUNTRY: United Kingdom.
PRODUCTION DETAILS: Hepple is the name of the Northumberland estate where Hepple Gin is crafted. Five of the six wild, separately distilled botanicals used in its making are hand-harvested from Northumberland National Park. Blackcurrant leaf, bog myrtle, Douglas fir, juniper, and lovage receive a final and exotic kiss of Amalfi lemon peel. A traditional copper pot still is used to create the base gin, into which the three hardier botanicals are muddled. A glass vacuum is used for the three more delicate botanicals, at a lower temperature. Then a unique extraction machine is used to draw every wisp of essence from the locally-picked green juniper.
