The German Franconia wine region is located towards the east of the country, taking up almost the entire valley of the Main River and its tributaries. The weather in Franconia is hard and there are many forests around the place. There is a wide variety of soils, which marks the different nuances of the produced wines, all presented in the traditional, convex and flat bottle.

The vineyards of Franconia enjoy the best lands in the southern and southwestern slopes of the hills, which are the one with more exposure to the sun, but with risk of frosts in spring. These climatic variations cause the quantity of wine to change widely from year to year.

The main white grape of Franconia is the Müller-Thurgau, followed by the Sylvaner, and the Riesling. Red wines are produced in the foothills of the Spessart, where the main strains are Portugieser and Spätburgunder.
