Domaine de la Janasse

Because of its exploded structure (more than sixty parcels), the La Janasse estate extends over a mosaic of terroirs (see illustration). Careful study and research on soils, their exposure and microclimates has made it possible to ideally organize the vineyard. White grapes and Syrah are planted preferably on sand-limestone soils and exposed northeast, to preserve freshness, acidity and finesse.Mourvèdres planted on clay-limestone soils covered with rolled pebbles get a very good level of maturity.

The vines for the Principauté d'Orange Viognier are planted on a surface of pebble, sand and large boulders. The grapes are picked entirely by hand and selected extremely strictly, both during the picking and on the sorting tables and after a pneumatic pressing a temperature-controlled fermentation follows. After fermentation, the wine matures "sur lie" for 6 months in oak barrels (25% new wood). All wines are classically made and excel by the combination of power and finesse. The Pays de la Principauté d'Orange IGP Viognier is a 100% viognier. In the glass beautiful straw yellow with in the nose the obvious Viognier tones with spring flowers, yellow fruit and freshness. On the palate, wine is creamy, full bodied, fruity with a pleasant fraîcheur in the aftertaste.

Domaine de la Janasse dates from 1967 when it was founded by Aimé Sabon with 15 hectares of vineyard. The total surface area is now 55 hectares and is currently being run by son Christophe and his sister Isabelle. The vineyards are located on a difficult surface of pebble, sand and large boulders. The vines are 40 to 80 years old. The yield is usually less than 30 hl / ha due to strict pruning and a rigorous vendange distance.

The big breakthrough of Janasse came in 2007, when their Châteauneuf du Pape "Veilles Vignes" scored 100 points Parker !! All their wines score excellent year after year. The quality of this domaine is so great that even their "regular" Cotes-du-Rhone already has a worldwide reputation! This is really a TOP domain!
