Château de Beaucastel

Château de Beaucastel

Some would argue that Beaucastel needs no introduction, but this website aims to cater for both, wine-lovers and beginners, and therefore I will continue. Beaucastel is regarded by many as one of the top estates, if not the top estate, of Châteauneuf du Pape, in the Southern Rhône Valley. Whereas others focus on Grenache, with a mixture of other varieties, Beaucastel uses a high proportion of Mourvèdre, matching the contribution from Grenache in the final blend.

Château de Beaucastel is set in a magical setting dotted with vineyards, age-old olive trees and truffle oaks. Beaucastel, that is the most famous wine of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Here you will find nature in its purest form and its strength will come to rest. The typical rolled boulders are the secret of its vineyards in which gnarled vines grow in traditional 'gobelet' form. On this age-old soil we find the 13 grape varieties that are allowed in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. All these 13 grape varieties form the basis of the mythical blends of Château de Beaucastel, where they are grown biodynamically. This makes them one of the last to use the richness and complexity that this blend offers.

The history of Beaucastel starts in the early 17th century. The Perrins appeared in the beginning of the 20th century. We are now five generations further and there is a global company in the field of quality wines . From very affordable to the absolute top. Everything about the vision, technology and vineyard processing that Beaucastel has given to the coveted, global top position applies to the vineyards and wines with other designations of origin, such as Ventoux, Luberon, Cotes du Rhone, Gigondas, Vinsobres, Rasteau and Vacqueyras. While maintaining its own character; the differences between the wines are great and prove the respectful working method

The Becausastel Chateauneuf du Pape is the famous wine of Perrin and contains the thirteen grape varieties of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation with a dying stock of Mourvèdre and Grenache (30% each), Syrah 10%, Counoise 10% Cinsault 5% and the remainder divided among the other grape varieties: Vaccarèse, Terret noir, Muscardin, Picpoul, Picardan, Bourboulenc, Roussanne.

The Chateauneuf du Pape is a rare beauty and has a very beautiful depth and complexity. In the glass, this famous Beaucastel has a deep ink-like ruby red color. In the nose aromas of black currants, blackberries, chocolate, tobacco and garrigue (dried Provencal herbs). In the taste palette tones of very ripe, small black fruit, cherry jam, figs, lavender and thyme, which are followed by a long finish with nice soft ripe tannins. This wine will improve over the years and has a drinking window until 2035+

97/100 Parker and No. 18 in the list of 100 best wines according to Wine Spectator

Nearly black in colour. The nose is very delicate and powerful at the same time, with red fruit, blackcurrants, blackberries, spices, thyme and lavender. The bouquet is very elegant, rich and round, with figs, cherries, blackcurrants and stewed fruit, all with great acidity. The tannins are present but very delicate.

- Rich, deep colours, the nose has complex notes of black fruit and cocoa, tobacco and mild spices. The mouth is full‐bodied and long, the tannins are rich and soft with a beautiful persistent finish. The 2013 is more northern in style style than southern.
