Description · Pol Roger

Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 2008 (Chardonnay, Pinot Nero and Pinot Noir)

  • View: The opulent golden color of wine is enlivened by a fine and harmonious stream of bubbles.
  • Nose: With notes of white flowers and freshly baked brioches, dried fruit and toasted hazelnuts and almonds, and a touch of orange peel.
  • Mouth: It is powerful and yet exquisitely well balanced, with notes of citrus, especially grapefruit, along with creamy notes of pastry.

VINEYARD: Grand Cru.

GRAPES: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

AGEING: 10 years in cellar.

PREPARATION: The press is taken to the vineyards, only top quality wine is used, the different varieties and different vineyards are vinified separately, after performing malolactic fermentation the wines are assembled. Passes breed in desk, where the stirring is done by hand, then stay on lees in raising their underground cellars for 11 years. parenting so long this time contributes to a rich, highly integrated and fine bead, also a great aromatic complexity and great balance.

PAIRING: The weight, balance and mineral freshness mean that this champagne can be served with parmigano Reggiano matured for 18 months, a stuffed capon "facon demi-deuil" or sweetbreads cooked with morels.

Pol Roger

Distinction and elegance. Pol Roger is the "gentlemen's" Champagne, as Jean-Paul Kauffman wrote in "Voyage en Champagne". It is not surprising, therefore, that Winston Churchill and even then British royal family should have made it their favourite over the years. This refinement reflects a whole...

I drank it at a bar in Champagne.
Fantastic colour. Good yeast aromas enhance a wine's bouquet. I think it was correct.

Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston 2008

I especially liked the colour. The final reminded me of bakery flavours.Fine perlage, just serve it cool.
It's better not to pair it and drink it alone.
Great for romantic evenings.

A champagne of great finesse, very elegant with dried fruit notes. A complex and powerful wine with great aging potential.

Pol Roger Winston Churchill 2004
Champagne Pol Roger created their Prestige Cuvée in homage to Sir Winston Churchill mindful of the qualities that he sought in his champagne : robustness, a full-bodied character and relative maturity. The exact blend is a closely guarded family secret but it is undeniable that the composition would meet with the approval of the man to whom it is dedicated : "My tastes are simple, I am easily satisfied with the best". Pinot Noir predominates, providing structure, breadth and robustness whilst Chardonnay contributes elegance, finesse and subtlety. Composed exclusively of grapes sourced from Grands Crus Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards which were already under vine during Churchill's lifetime. Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is only made in the very best vintages and is always released later than the other vintage dated Champagnes from Pol Roger, marking Churchill's appreciation for older wines.

Pol Roger Brut Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 2002
Aroma: Complex but a little faint scent. Full-bodied character with hints of coffee, kako, orange.

Taste: A light touch of cocoa, coffee. Followed by apple and possibly a small hint of orange. Faint hints of bread and minerals. The mousse is very good, though a bit watery end.

Comment: When I popped the cork so I had very high expectations of this champagne, but I was not as surprised as I thought I would be. Not at all the same WOW feeling as when I drank Domp. 04 or 06. Cristal WC 02 is no mean champagne but unfortunately do not have this vintage any further fuss.
