TASTING NOTES OF Krug Vintage 2004:

  • View: light gold and precious promise of radiant freshness.
  • Nose: bouquet ginger, candied citrus and quince, more complex notes of lemon meringue, plum and Mirabelle.
  • Mouth: a great balance, notes of brioche and honey, a variety of fresh citrus-orange, lemon or tangerine and a final of great elegance.



GRAPES: Chardonnay (39%), Pinot Noir (37%), Pinot Meunier (24%).

PAIRING: sea urchin caviar or salmon tartare, whitefish in lemon sauce or olive oil a sole meunière, or even Thai dishes seasoned with ginger and lemongrass.

A Krug vintage is reserved for a special year. A year they believe represents something even more exceptional than what their Grande Cuvee would produce. Only the second ever Krug Vintage created following on from the 1981, it is packed with the customary fruity Krug palate, rare flavours such as marzipan, gingerbread and snippets of oyster shell come together for something quite extraordinary. Chinese, Japanese or Thai cuisine all work well due to their flavours and spices complementing the 1998's body. Use a white fish such as seabass or turbot as the base ingredient. Robert Parker Review advocates Krug's 1998 Brut Vintage is an excellent choice for drinking today, as the classic Krug style is rich, alive and totally vivid. 2004 - Non contractual picture. The good weather that accompanied the harvest has made 2004 a generous year. Mixture of delicacy, balance and a myriad of citrus notes, Krug 2004 was dubbed "Bright Freshness". evoking sensations of early summer morning in Champagne. On the one undeniable elegance and discretion, Champagne Krug 2004 is very expressive, bright and nicely structured.
Nicknamed "Freshness Light", this wine combines delicacy and symphony of citrus on a light structure, Krug 2004 is the vibrant story of a year while freshness.

- View: this vintage dresses in a bright and golden color.
- Nose: we discover delicate floral aromas, and incredibly pure. Then after a few minutes we find notes of red berries, stewed fruit, brioche aromas and a hint of ginger and citrus.
- Palate: generous and creamy texture, the delicate balance of flavors and its exceptionally long finish on the palate make a digest of delicacy and refinement, a wine of perfect harmony, totally captivating.

Mixed and complex, Krug 2004 convenes a variety of flavors. This latest vintage of the past century is the result of an extreme year, which begins with a stormy winter followed by a warm spring and a summer that also saw beautiful thunderstorms. This unusual year gives a final Krug Vintage more balanced and complete.
Spicy dishes, candied vegetables and desserts with roasted fruits are perfect for this stormy vintage whose opulence and intensity accord with great finesse.

Perfume: Between Dark and spicy with a hint of dill.

Taste: Between Dark character with spicy structure. Elements of dill, lemon and a hint of licorice in the background.

Comment: A good Krug to come from a weak 2003 vintage. However somewhat watery.

For the meal we had, this wasn't the proper wine. I like to surprise my family with this wine.
I was impressed by its colour. Its aromas reminded me of yeast. A Krug Brut is never a light experience.

A beautiful colour. Very yeasty and biscuity on the nose. It has a dense texture.
I enjoyed it without pairing.
I usually preserve Krug for special people.
