You will like to know that…
The extremely delicate white wine Viña Esmeralda 2018 comes from the Spanish winery Bodegas Torres in Catalonia. Its history is inconceivable without the New World. Miguel Torres emigrated to Cuba in 1855, where he earned a fortune in the oil industry and maritime trade. In 1870 he returned to his homeland and founded the winery in Vilafranca del Penedès with his brother and winegrower Jaime. Jaime Torres built the largest wine container in the world with a 600,000 litre tub.
During the Spanish Civil War, the winery was bombed and its facilities destroyed, including the huge tub. Miguel Torres Carbó, who belongs to the third generation of the family history, rebuilt the winery in 1940. In the same year, he crossed the Atlantic with his wife to sell their wines overseas. At that time the brands Sangre de Toro, Viña Sol and Coronas were introduced, which today belong to the best known Spanish wine brands worldwide. It also produces several award-winning brandy brands, including Jaime I, which was named best brandy in the world at the World Brandy Awards 2015.
In the mid-1960s, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, then Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling (named after Waltraud, the German wife of the third Miguel Torres) and Gewürztraminer were planted. The company maintains several wineries in Spain, the USA and Chile. Since 1975 the cultivation of the wine has been sustainable. Now in its fifth generation, the family belongs to the association Primum Familiae Vini (PFV), founded in 1991, to which eleven of the world's most important century-old winegrowing families belong.

Reviews of Viña Esmeralda 2018
- Sensual and silky on the palate, framed by seductive, delicate acidity (pink grapefruit).
Torresviña Esmeralda 2015
Yellow, with golden hints. Over all, the Viña Esmeralda reminded me of white flowers. Strong flavour which reminds me of strawberry candy.
The wine was fine, but we paired it wrongly.
It had a very deep colour. Very sweet smell of honey. I liked the Viña Esmeralda, although it tasted a bit rough.
You can take it with any meal.
