Description of Calvados Vénérable

Calvados Vénérable

  • Colour: Calvados Vénérable has a bright yellowish brown, tawny complexion.
  • Aroma: Fruity bouquet, complemented by spicy aromas of vanilla and diverse peppery scents.
  • Taste: Smooth on the palate, with a marked smoky character and fruity notes of white pear and gingerbread. The finish is long and persistent.

PRODUCER: Roger Groult.

COUNTRY: France.

PRODUCTION DETAILS: Truly superb calvados fabricated from apple cider as a base liqueur. The apples from the region of Pays d'Auge are collected by hand and carefully selected. Distillation is conducted over a wood fire in a double distillation process in order to obtain a pure elixir. Maturation and the final blending take place in old French oak barrels for at least 18 years, before the spirit is bottled for commercialization. The extended maturation period contributes to take the bite out of the spirit while maintaining the strength and adding some complexity and spicy notes to the taste profile. Also, the old oak provides mild tannins so as not to diminish the fruity character of the calvados. This spirit is smooth, balanced, and highly aromatic. Due to its soft character, Calvados Vénérable works perfectly as an aperitif or a digestive served at room temperature, or to accompany chocolate or apple-based desserts.
