Château de Chambert Cahors Malbec 2014
Description of Château de Chambert Cahors Malbec 2014
Château de Chambert Cahors Malbec 2014 (Malbec and Merlot)
- View: Deep red with glints of crimson
- Nose: Refined notes of red fruit and chocolate against a background of oak and mineral
- Mouth: This blended red wine has dense, tightly-knit palate with a beautiful balance of cherry, plum, and blackberry and silky tannins and a subtle but not unnoticeable touch of oak.
VINEYARD: The Chambert vineyard covers 65 hectares in the Cahors, France. The vineyard lies at an average of 300 meters above sea level, and only the ideally southeast-facing slopes are planted with vines. The combination of limestone, red clay, and iron soil provides an interesting complexity to the final wine.
GRAPES: 85% Malbec and 15% Merlot
AGEING: The grapes are first fermented in tanks that are temperature controlled between 20 and 25°C, on the lees for 15-20 days. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally in the barrels. The wine is finally matured for 12 months in new and old oak French barrels.
PREPARATION: Chateau de Chambert has centuries of winemaking history in the region and is currently the largest certified organic vineyard in Cahors. Grapes for this wine come from vines that are over 30 years old. Each grape is sorted and de-stemmed by hand. The process is all-natural, so there is no added yeast or other additives making for a truly authentic wine.
PAIRING: Lamb, beef and venison
