VINEYARD: Tenuta Il Poggione began over a century ago, when a Florence landowner fell deeply in love with its Tuscan landscape and potential. Still in the loving hands of the Franceschi family, today the estate comprises not only carefully-tended vines, but also livestock and forests. The vineyards cover both lower and higher altitudes, allowing for a variety of expressions; excellent growth regardless of weather; and great ageing potential for gorgeous and powerful wines. This producer is not only one of Tuscany's most respected, but has an impeccable name globally.

GRAPES: 100% Sangiovese (Brunello)

AGEING: Three years in French oak barrels, followed by lengthy bottle-ageing.

PREPARATION: Hand-picked grapes from the oldest vines on the estate undergo 15-20 days of submerged cap-style fermentation in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts at controlled temperatures of 25-28°C, then malolactic fermentation in stainless steel.

PAIRING: Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2013 is a luxurious accompaniment to game, red meats, and strong cheeses.
