The Tenuta Il Poggione is today one of the major companies in the municipality of Montalcino: it is extended for about 600 hectares, divided into 125 hectares of vineyards, 70 of olive grove, as well as arable land and forests. The main philosophy is to have a great attention to the vineyards, because the secret to produce great red wines lies in tending the vines. It is also fundamental to the Tenuta Il Poggione Diversified agriculture, alternating different crops to vineyards, and allowing that the life of wild animals that can live in harmony with the territory. In constant safeguarding the typicality and quality improvement work, Tenuta Il Poggione supports the research and selection, a drastic reduction in production. Moreover, through cluster thinning, continuous monitoring of the health status of the vineyards and constantly checking the need for soil nutrients, you can get an excellent product even in less favorable years. At Poggione the harvest is done manually, and the wine is made by the traditional method, but using modern and advanced technologies. A ruby red wine with garnet hues and a very intense, lingering and stylish bouquet with small dark berry fruit notes. The palate is dry, warm, quite smooth and tannic and the after-aroma is long-lasting.

Il Poggione is a certainty for the territory of Montalcino. One of the only DOCG Brunello that never disappoints: even in the most unfortunate years, comes a high quality product, according to our but especially the international press, which rewards him constantly with scores greater than 90/100. Historically, the harvest of the estate Franceschi is manual. Fermentation in stainless steel and aging in large oak barrels for 36 months. Il Poggione Brunello has a wonderful, magnificent classical style: a masterpiece to be enjoyed with a nice seasoned cheese Bitto, stilton or montasio. For the price, to fill the cellar.

The Brunello of the winery Il Poggione is obtained from Sangiovese grapes, coming from older properties vineyards, placed in Montalcino area at an altitude of between 150 and 450 m. The Sangiovese grapes are picked by hand. The alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation occur within stainless steel containers. The 36 months of aging that take place within larger 30 and 50 hl French oak barrels, and are followed by a further long period of the wine stays in the bottle. The sight is red ruby. The nose shows a fascinating olfactory intensity, designed by a fruity trail of red fruits and berries on a background consisting of spices, leather and tobacco. The complexity is also apparent on the palate, where the alcohol and tannins are balanced in a full and firm body. Perfect if combined with preparations based on red meat and game, in particular with the boar to salmì.

Generation after generation, many resources were spent on research for quality, clonal selections, winemaking and aging techniques, and also by building a modern winery for the standards at that time. Il Poggione was one of the first wineries to market the Brunello di Montalcino wine as early as the 1900's, and one of the founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium. After more than a Century, Lavinio Franceschi's work is still a fundamental point of reference for his successors, Leopoldo and Livia, who continue to develop the business with that same dedication and unrelenting passion, combining the ancient skills of winemaking crafts and tradition with the latest, most innovative techniques.
