Description of Metaxa Private Reserve
Metaxa Private Reserve
- Colour: Metaxa Private Reserve is a warm, dark amber hue.
- Aroma: A balanced and delicate nose of coffee, dark chocolate, flowers, fruitcake, poached pear, and oak, with echoes of cinnamon and vanilla.
- Taste: A rich, deep, and fruity structure, full-bodied, mellow, and perfectly rounded, with subtle sweetness and notes of cigar box, citrus peel, figs, and fruitcake, into a somewhat black peppery tobacco finish. The flavours dance in your mouth, but so smoothly.
PRODUCER: Metaxa was founded by a man from a family of silk merchants, Spyros Metaxa, whose travels for trade introduced him to rich ingredients and recipe ideas. He introduced the first Metaxa in 1888.
PRODUCTION DETAILS: Spyros Metaxas has the distinction of being the first to create Greek brandy. Metaxa Private Reserve is not merely a brandy, however, in the traditional sense, being rather more complex, and is called a ‘Greek spirit'. Crafted from Black Corinth, Savatiano, and Sultanina grapes, it is double-distilled; given added sweetness with aged Samos muscat wines; then a secret concoction of herbs and rose petals is blended with it, before all being placed in hand-made oak barrels to mature. Against this already rich, complex character, Metaxa Private Reserve is the most distinguished, as it is crafted annually by the Metaxa Master, drawing on the oldest and finest distillates, much twenty years old and some portion being thirty.
Metaxa was created by Spyros Metaxa in 1888. This unique, amber-coloured spirit is a mix of Muscat wine, aged wine distillates, and Mediterranean botanicals. The wine distillates and Muscat wines are first aged separately before being blended in Limousin oak casks.More about the Producer
