The Andalusian brand Pedro Domecq was founded in 1822. It quickly took its place among the distilleries of the world-famous Jerez region in southernmost Spain. The winery was honoured with a visit by Spanish King Ferdinand VII in 1823, who appointed Pedro Domecq to be the provider of his sherry wine. In 1904, King Alfonso XIII paid his own visit to the winery, repeating the visit, this time in the company of his wife, in 1915. The Fundador brand was sold to Grupo Emperador in 2015.
Fundador is a Spanish brandy whose name translates to "founder". This name is quite apt because Fundador was the first spirit to be marketed as a Jerez brandy. This grape-based spirit is made using specially selected grapes that are processed and then aged in American oak barrels that were previously used for sherry.
It is the special Criaderas and Soleras ageing system that makes this Fundador brandy so special. This system allows the younger spirits to gain the personality of the older spirits through mixing in the barrels. The first Solera for Fundador was created back in 1874. This brandy may have been created on accident, but it was a welcome accident! Try a bottle for yourself and taste the spirit that has inspired innumerable copies.

PRODUCTION DETAILS: From the very own bodegas of this prestigious house, Spain witnessed the birth of the first brandy ever produced in its lands. Using the same process as it was first designed in the 19th century, this spirit is matured in a Solera system, in old American oak casks that were previously soaked in sherry. This brandy is distilled from Airen and Palomino grape varieties. Warm colour and a distinctive sweet and smooth flavour, this is the perfect choice for a sophisticated drink at the end of an elegant meal, along with a steamy cup of coffee and chocolate. Fundador is the classical brandy produced by this house, that has established a name among connoisseurs and positioned as the number one export brandy in Spain.
Pedro Domecq is a winery based in the famous Jerez region in the south of Spain. This Andalusian brand was active from 1822 until it was bought out and sold off to various companies in the 2000s. The flagship products of the brand can still be enjoyed and are still being produced by the companies that bought the rights to them. Part of the winery itself in the Jerez region is now a museum with artefacts from the history to brandy on display.More about the Producer
