The founder of William Grant & Sons, William Grant, was born in 1839. When he began working in the distillery business as a bookkeeper in 1866, he could hardly imagine that his own whisky brand would become an internationally successful business. Or that five decades later, the distillery would still remain in the hands of his family.
It was Christmas day in 1887 when the distillery William Grant & Sons produced its first drops of whisky. It had taken William about 20 years to acquire both experience and funds to start an independent distillery on his own. Fortunately, he was decided in life, shrewd in business and an expert in the art of making whisky.
William built his first distillery with the help of his 7 sons and 2 daughters, which speaks for the family's faithful dedication to the distillery.
