Vidigal Wines is a company that produces still wines and liqueur of medium size and family character. it is located in the Leiria area of central Portugal. The origins of the company date from the beginning of the 20th century, in a Quinta founded by a Canon of the Church. During the last century, the company had a couple of owners until the beginning of the 90's when the current director, António Mendes Lopes - took over management. Since that time Vidigal has undergone great changes and technological advances that today allow it to produce about 3 million bottles per year.
Vidigal is currently divided between 40% of Norwegian capital and 60% owned by the director with dual Portuguese-Danish nationality, António Mendes Lopes. AM Lopes has more than 30 years of experience in the world of wine. He created and developed an international wine import company in Denmark. Thanks to his experience as an importer, he has gained a great experience and knowledge about wines from around the world. António Mendes Lopes actively participates in the elaboration of the wines together with two oenologists: António Ventura, considered the oenologist of the year in Portugal in 2006, and Rafael Neuparth.
With an export rate of around 90%, Vidigal has had for four consecutive years the best-selling wine in Norway which was a feat never before achieved by any Portuguese product anywhere in the world. Selling about 40 wines in more than 30 countries, Vidigal is certainly one of the most international wine companies in Portugal.
At the production level, Vidigal Wines has established several partnerships in the wine region of Lisbon, which in total represent around 450ha. of vineyards. It also maintains several partnerships in other producing regions of Portugal, in a total of 7 regions: Lisbon, Tejo, Douro, Alentejo, Dão, Beiras and Vinho Verde.
The vast majority of Vidigal wines, particularly those of the wine region of Lisbon, are produced very close to the Atlantic Ocean - about 30km - and, as such, are heavily influenced by the Atlantic breezes, resulting in fresh and always very fruity wines. The main grape varieties used in Vidigal wines are Touriga Nacional, Aragonez (Tinta Roriz), Castelão, Syrah and Cabernet.
