The grapes used to make Maetierra´s wines are grown in Finca Maetierra, which is located in Calahorra, a municipality that grows 150 hectares of different varieties. Maetierra has opted for modern plantations in a trellis formation, which are harvested mechanically at night when the temperature is the lowest, as the grapes are picked in the last weeks of August.
On the other hand, all the vineyards in Maetierra are irrigated using drip irrigation systems, which support the vines in key moments and allow performing an intensive irrigation, thus optimising the use of water.
In addition, a spontaneous vegetation cover system is used to minimise the land’s erosion and compaction, as well as to favour aeration, the development of soil fauna and the mineralization of organic material; to improve the structure and increase the amount of organic material in the soil; and to favour the maintenance of local and wild plant species. In addition, it requires less work force and produces lower CO2 emissions, etc.
