Kahlúa is a Mexican coffee liqueur known on the international market for its dense texture and sweet taste. Allied Domecq produced Kahlúa in Mexico from 1936 until the company was partially acquired by Pernod Ricard, the world's second-largest spirits producer, in 2005.
The story of Kahlúa began in 1936 in Mexico when some friends followed their gut feeling and mixed Arabica coffee with rum. From 1940 this delicious liqueur was exported to the USA, where it was a great success.
Did you know that the original White Russian is made with Kahlúa? The first time this delicious cocktail was created in Oakland, California in 1955 and since then it has been popular all over the world. With the help of this cocktail, this rum liqueur became a world brand.
Even today the Kahlúa still impresses with its unique liqueur and belongs to the internationally known Pernod Ricard Group, which distributes some of the best alcohol brands in the world.
For the production of this delicious liqueur you first need the most important ingredient: coffee beans. The coffee beans can take up to 6 years to mature, as they grow in the shade to obtain unique characteristics.
The second important ingredient is rum. The rum of Kahlúa is made from sugar cane, from which the juice is extracted, boiled and mixed with water. The next step is the distillation process.
After about 7 years, the coffee beans meet the rum. The coffee, perfectly roasted for the occasion, rests in the rum base for 4 weeks. Afterwards, the rum is bottled and exported worldwide.
