about Gaia Wines
Gaia Wines is a Greek winery which boasts two vineyards - one on the island of Santorini and the other in Nemea, in the northeastern part of the Peloponnese. Both vineyards are typical examples of harmonious “cooperation” of soil and climate to produce wines that even the most demanding wine lovers will adore. In both areas, the chosen location, the soil characteristics, the climatic conditions, the humidity and temperature levels, are treated with respect but also the attention required for varieties such as Assyrtiko and Agiorgitiko, to perform their best.
The Santorini winery is located on the beach on the east side of the island. The vineyard’s location is a unique area known worldwide for its complex ecosystem. The rare white wines made from the indigenous variety of Assyrtiko owe their uniqueness to the volcanic and porous soil of the island. Volcanic soil, very high summer temperatures and strong sea winds help the autochthonous Assyrtiko variety to thrive.
The Nemea vineyard is located at an altitude of 250 to 850m, offering a unique variability in soil and climate conditions. The winery was built in 1997 at the heart of the private vineyard in Koutsi Nemea. Semi-mountainous, stony soils at an altitude of 850 metres, with relatively cold and wet winters and cool summers, are the special homeland of the variety of Agiorgitiko that offers us red wines with great ageing potential.
