about Daumas Gassac
Daumas Gassac is located in the Upper Gassac Valley and is one of the reference wineries in the Languedoc Roussillon region. Its exquisite Grands Crus are considered the "Château Lafite of the Languedoc" by Gault et Millau.
In 1971 Véronique and Aimé Guibert acquired the property and with the help of their friend Henry Enjalbert, a geologist specializing in the soil-vine relationship and author of important monographs on Château Latour, Haut Brion and Saint Émilion, began the study of productive possibilities Of this land.
Henry Enjalbert found an exceptional terroir: deep soils composed of glacier limestone, of a quality comparable to those of the Côte d'Or of Burgundy, well drained, with sources of cold groundwater and the influence of the neighboring mountain chain that provides this Valley its microclimate, with a certain humidity like in the Médoc.
The Guibert family wanted to respect the wild beauty of the Upper Valley of the Gassac and decided to plant vines of small surface (calveros) swallowed in the immense forest of carrascales that dominates the landscape. More than 50 vineyards in calveros for 40 Hs of vineyards. The vineyard is a drier of the aromas of the surrounding vegetation. In this way, Daumas Gassac crus is enriched with flavors of laurel, thyme, rosemary, lavender, strawberry, fennel, spearmint, etc.
Apart from its invaluable raw material, Daumas Gassac's crus is the product of a careful vinification defined by Émile Peynaud, the great modern genius of oenology and adviser of the Châteaux Margaux, Haut Brion, La Lagune, among others. The result is clear: wines of beautiful complexity and great potential of guard, that demand to be drunk with reverence.
