Van Zellers was officially established in 1780 as an exporting company of Port Wine by the first generation of Portuguese van Zelleres.
One of the biggest companies of that time, would be sold to another house in the middle of the nineteenth century.
The van Zeller family reinstated it by incorporation into Quinta do Noval around 1930 - Quinta do Noval was then owned by my great-grandfather Luís de Vasconcellos Porto, whose daughter and heiress, my grandmother Rita de Vasconcellos Porto, had recently married the my grandfather Cristiano van Zeller, the founder's first-line direct descendant.
In 1993 Van Zellers & Co. was sold by the family along with Quinta do Noval, entering a period of dormancy during which it had no stock or commercial activity.
In 2006, I finally regained the company and its brands. That same year I started to produce Douro DOC wines under the brands "VZ" and "Van Zellers" and in 2009 I glimpsed the wines of Porto Van Zellers, opening a new chapter in the history of this bicentennial company.
