The Companhia Agrícola do Sanguinhal was founded in 1926 by Abel Pereira da Fonseca to manage the properties it had in the region of Bombarral.

It planted the first extreme vines (wine only - no mixed fruit trees) aligned and wirewound which was a great innovation at a time when there were still no tractors. The vines were also divided into plots with each field being planted with only one caste (another innovation at the time). He introduced new grape varieties and to study their adaptability, he planted a field in Quinta do Sanguinhal where he had more than 30 different grape varieties and is still called "experiences".
