In the early sixteenth century, the Arregedhuys parcel, wich later became the vineyard of Château La Mission Haut-Brion, was owned by Louis de Roustains, sieur de La Tour d'Esquivens.
In 1540, Louis de Roustaing sold the Arregedhuys parcel to Arnaud de Lesstonnac, an important merchant in Bordeaux, who became, like Jean de Pontac, the founder of a dynasty that would acquire great renown, serving in high public offices in Bordeaux.
On March 10, 2009, Liv-Ex, the world's leading exchange for fine wine, based in London, reviewed the 1855 Classification to create a new ranking of Bordeaux wines for the modern economic context. The most notbale difference from the original classification was the Château La Mission Haut-Brion is now raised to the rank of First growth!
