about Castellare di Castellina
A historic company of the Chianti Classico, Castellare di Castellina was born in today's form in 1968, thanks to the fusion of five different farms. A magical place where the vineyards - thirty-three hectares in total - are perfectly integrated into the environment, including woods and other crops. An area where excellent exposure, good drainage of water, mixed soils of calcareous marl, galestro and little clay, have always given well structured wines, intense and suitable for a long aging in bottle. The winery has been the property of the entrepreneur Paolo Panerai since the late '70s, which immediately began a long research process aimed at improving all its labels. A careful census of the vines, undertaken immediately after the purchase, has for example allowed to select the best Sangiovese species for the "Sodi di San Niccolò", the company's symbolic wine. Not only that: an experimental plot planted in the property in collaboration with the Universities of Milan and Florence and with the Institute of San Michele all'Adige, allows a continuous research on the best clones as well as the production of cuttings selected for the renewal of the vineyards. At an altitude of about 370 meters above sea level, vines have an age ranging between five and thirty years, and come to produce qualitatively excellent grapes. In the cellar, the clusters of Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera, and then also of Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, are processed pursuing a single main objective: to enhance and enhance all the intrinsic peculiarities belonging to the varietal and deriving from the terroir. With the labels on which each year a different bird stands out, chosen among those endangered as to underline the care and respect that the company has towards the environment, those that lead back to the name of Castellare di Castellina are all wines for years now belonging to the best Tuscan tradition of Chianti Classico. Bottles, those that come from the cellar of Castellina in Chianti, daughters of a deep love for their land and their vineyards, and the result of an equally profound respect for the oldest traditions of the area.
