A history of commitment
The Sole Bay Brewery in Southwold was purchased in 1872 by George and Ernest Adnams. Very involved in their environment, the managers have always favoured working with local collaborators. On the occasion of its 100th anniversary, the company founded a charity, the Adnams Charity, to support various social causes within a 25-mile radius of Southwold.
Another of the company's priorities has also always been ecology. From the very beginning, the desire to respect the earth has been at the heart of the company's approach. Today, preserving the environment is still at the heart of its principles. It was the first British brewery to carry out a complete analysis of the water cycle in its organisation in order to rationalise its use. An anaerobic digestion plant has also been installed to convert the brewery's waste into biogas. Reducing energy consumption is a key area and major initiatives have been taken to reduce the company's carbon footprint.
Awards and varieties
The distillery produces regular cask beers, seasonal beers, pasteurized bottled beers, "international" beers, "commemorative" beers, created for special occasions, and cider. In 2010, the company established the Copper House distillery for the production of gin, vodka and whisky. These different products have won various awards in their categories, such as the Triple Grain, which in 2014 won a silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Awards, and Adnams Longshore Vodka, which for two consecutive years in 2018 won first place in the famous International Wine and Spirit Competition.
