Abbot's Bitter is the passionate intention of resurrecting an iconic brand, a quest started by Peter Schaf and John Troia. Both shared the interest or hobby of collecting old glass bottles form the late 60ies and 70ies. But before starting to produce Abbott's bitter they had to know the brand's history, its different versions and editions, its recipe.
After many years of research and obsession over history, the men finally developped a recipe that should come close to the Original. But unless a verifiable copy of the pre-Prohibition recipe and protocol for Abbott’s Bitters is discovered, no one can make that claim with any real certainty. The recipe is culled from numerous 19th Century angostura bark formulations. The final version was compared to numerous Original recipes of this time, when Abbot's was to be the best of them all.
It's the brand's goal since its very beginnings to create the truest, best, most authentic expression of the original Abbott’s Bitters.
