Bordeaux, in the southwest of France, is one of the world's most famous, prestigious and prolific wine regions of France. In fact, Bordeaux is the largest French wine region with an annual production of around 700 million bottles and is home to 10,000 chateaux. This region is located between three rivers, spread out over more than 105,000 hectares, and has 53 denominations of origin. These figures allow us to get an idea of the importance of this wine region.

Bordeaux's climate is moderated by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and the presence of the various rivers: the Dordogne, the Garonne and the Gironde Estuary. Summer daytime temperatures hover around 25℃, while winter temperatures only occasionally go below freezing. The region enjoys long, relatively warm summers which are ideal for growing late-ripening grape varieties.

Over 90% of Bordeaux wines are red wines made with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Permitted grapes include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. In the late 1960s Sémillon was the most planted grape in Bordeaux.
