Tenute San Guido
Sassicaia 2016 is an extraordinary wine produced in the Tenuta San Guido, Bolgheri.
The latter is a hamlet of Castagneto Carducci which is located a few kilometers north-west of the capital. It stands at the center of the Maremma Livornese, on the foothills of the Metalliferous Hills.
Bolgheri is famous not only for the historical landscape features, even for red wines that are produced in the area. Thanks to the particular characteristics of the soil and to the sunny microclimate, dry and moderately ventilated, are well adapted in the area Bordeaux origin vines, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
Among the most famous we find the Sassicaia Tenuta San Guido (homonym fraction of the area), made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc (the historical farmhouse is located just opposite the Oratory of San Guido).
The history of Sassicaia is known to all fans, but it is worth mentioning some data salient.
The first vintage coming to market is the 1968. This was also the first with the label we know why Mario Incisa had already begun to produce this strange wines in San Guido in the 50s. So true, however, that only a few friends of the house were lucky enough to taste the 1957 or 1967 or the legendary different wine Sassicaia 1977.
The Bolgheri Sassicaia is a DOC wine. The production is allowed in a specific area of the municipality, produced with at least 80% of Cabernet Sauvignon. The Bolgheri Sassicaia is one of the finest Italian wines and is produced exclusively by the Tenuta San Guido. This has all the vineyards in the area bounded by the DOC.
The Sassicaia is the Italian wine better known to the world. Sassicaia was born genius of Mario Incisa della Rocchetta which, already in the twenties, dreamed of creating a classy wine. He decided to plant Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc in Tenuta San Guido, for the resemblance he had noticed between these lands and the Bordeaux area: stony and stony soil, just like a "Sassicaia".
Over the years, thanks to the valuable contribution winemaker Giacomo Tachis, Sassicaia has become the symbol of a very high quality wine production. The Sassicaia Tenuta San Guido exalt all the big events and lavish dinners, but sipped in a pleasant solitude and meditation will surprise you like no other.
The Sassicaia wine is sumptuous looking precious red ruby. The nose fascinate notes of ripe cherries, blackberries, black currants, rosemary, lavender, raspberry leaf and grassy world; everything is accompanied by a touch of elegant oak note and mild tobacco cues pipe. On the palate it is appreciated for its intensity, vigor dell'arduo territory from which it is born, and a plot perfectly embroidered with freshness and flavor.
The Sassicaia best expresses the story that embodies with aging. It is a masterpiece of the harsh land of Bolgheri, and only the large developments.
Color: Deep ruby red
Bouquet: fruity notes of black cherries, blueberries and black currants blend of aromas of bitter orange, chocolate, graphite and Mediterranean
Taste: Balanced, full and elegant with soft and smooth tannins and a long finish.
100 of 100
Another record for the Sassicaia, the big red Bolgheri. The year 2016 was evaluated 100/100, the highest rating from Robert Parker, the American critic. It was in 1985 that Parker was not given to wine Incisa della Rocchetta family super voting. After 34 years, therefore, Sassicaia conquest of the new world podium for the founder of The Wine Advocate. It 'the first time that an Italian wine gets twice this recognition. A taste it and vote it was Monica Larner, journalist and critic for Italy Wine Advocate.

In this Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Bolgheri Hb 375ml 2013, the wood dominates the wine flavours.
A beautiful colour. This Sassicaia 375ml with its raspberry aromas might be considered as delicacy. Extraordinary flavour with caramel hints.
