You will like to know that…
The Sassicaia is one of the most famous Italian wines in the world, whose name seems to derive from the characteristics of the soil from which it comes. The soils of Bolgheri have a high content of limestone and stones.
It was Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, formerly established at Tenuta San Guido, who had the idea of creating a wine from Bordeaux in the Maremma, a region which, at the beginning of the last century, was virtually unknown in the wine business. He had indeed recognised similar characteristics between the soils of Bordeaux and those of Tuscany: the intuition proved to be brilliant!
The Sassicaia 2017 is rich and complex, another great vintage of a wine that is already a legend. The nose can be recognised by a wide variety of notes, from ripe berries to roasted almonds, from cola to graphite, from Mediterranean scrub to bitter orange. In the mouth, too, the taste is powerful and persistent, made elegant by a beautiful acid vein and depth.

...I would give this wine a seven out of 10 in terms of aromas, a five out of 10 in terms of mid-palate, and an eight out of 10 in terms of structure. Another way to read those conclusions is as follows: The 2017 Sassicaia was expertly built to withstand a long aging future, yet only time will tell if the beauty of the bouquet will evolve at the same pace. This fascinating wine magically captures the hallmarks of cool-temperature winemaking in one of the hottest vintages in recent years. Vintners, not vintage, won this round.View more
Reviews of Sassicaia 2017
Strong, concentrated, with sweet and balanced tannins on the palate. Very long finish with very important organoleptic and poliphenolic aspects, which will ensure to this wine an extraordinary longevity.
Tenuta San Guido Bolgheri Sassicaia 2013
It was still a little too early to taste it.
Very dark Bordeaux colour. Smells like cedar wood or pine tree. An oil-textured wine.
