You will like to know that…

The Sassicaia is one of the most famous Italian wines in the world, whose name seems to derive from the characteristics of the soil from which it comes. The soils of Bolgheri have a high content of limestone and stones.

It was Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, formerly established at Tenuta San Guido, who had the idea of creating a wine from Bordeaux in the Maremma, a region which, at the beginning of the last century, was virtually unknown in the wine business. He had indeed recognised similar characteristics between the soils of Bordeaux and those of Tuscany: the intuition proved to be brilliant!

The Sassicaia 2017 is rich and complex, another great vintage of a wine that is already a legend. The nose can be recognised by a wide variety of notes, from ripe berries to roasted almonds, from cola to graphite, from Mediterranean scrub to bitter orange. In the mouth, too, the taste is powerful and persistent, made elegant by a beautiful acid vein and depth.

On sale in many gourmet shops.
Nice red Bordeaux colour. Smells like red tea. Fleshy, smoothy.

Tenuta San Guido Bolgheri Sassicaia 2017

4 /5

  • View: Color red garnet with purple reflections.
  • Nose: It offers sweet and ripe currants and flowers with some nuances of crushed stone and dry land.
  • Mouth: The palate is powerful and concentrated, emphasizing the ripe fruit and adding other flavors to chocolate, vanilla, quinine and fern, in a combination that gives a pleasant freshness to the whole plant. A wine of stately elegance, exquisite balance, with fine tannins that seem to cherish.

APPELLATION: Bolgheri Sassicaia (Tuscany, Italy).

VINEYARD: Tenuta San Guido.

GRAPES: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon.

AGEING: Aged in French oak barrels (40% new) for 24 months.

PREPARATION: 2017 was a very hot year will probably be remembered as one of the driest since 2003. Fortunately, daytime sea breezes alternated with night winds from the interior, refreshed the vines. With these cooling effects, grapes remained healthy and developed excellent aromatic compounds and phenolics. The mixture was maintained at 85% and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc.

WINE PAIRING: Excellent choice with large game dishes, especially wild boar.

I bought it here at Uvinum.
Brillant ruby red colour, high layer. The 2017 smells like violets. Predominating aromas of red fruits.

Reviews of other vintages of Sassicaia 2017201320102008

It is a characteristic of Sassicaia to expect great results even in these less celebrated vintages. And this tendency was even more reinforced in the last decade. Sassicaia is intense, concentrated and deep ruby colour. Very complex and elegant on the nose, with scents of red fruits.
Strong, concentrated, with sweet and balanced tannins on the palate. Very long finish with very important organoleptic and poliphenolic aspects, which will ensure to this wine an extraordinary longevity.

Just drunk. Nothing to say, wine perfect with no defects.
Not worth the cost, however. Absolutely not good value for money. With that money you can buy other wines. Price is right for me 60 euro.
