In the twenties, a student in Pisa, Mario Incisa della Rocchetta dreamed of creating a classy wine. His ideal, as the aristocracy of the time, it was Bordeaux. So he describes in a letter to the Veronelli 11/06/1974. "... The experiment origin dates back to the years between 1921 and 1925, when a student at Pisa and a frequent guest of the Dukes Salviati in Migliarino, I drank a wine from their vineyard on Mount Vecchiano that had the same distinctive "bouquet" of an old Bordeaux I just tasted more than drunk, (because 14 years does not allow me to drink wine) before 1915, at the home of my grandfather Chigi. "Having established with his wife Clarice in Tenuta San Guido on the Tyrrhenian coast, experimented with several French grape varieties (whose cuttings he had recovered from the estate of the Dukes Salviati in Migliarino, and not from France) and concluded that the Cabernet had "the bouquet I was looking for." No one had ever thought of doing a "Bordeaux" wine in Maremma, an unknown area under wine point of view. The decision to plant this variety in the Tenuta San Guido was partly due to the similarity that he had noticed in this area of Tuscany and Graves, Bordeaux. Graves means gravel, stony ground for distinguishing the area, just like Sassicaia, in Tuscany, an area calls with the same characteristics. From 1948 to 1967, Sassicaia it remained strictly private domain, and was drunk only at the estate. Bottle Year: 1994

Reviews of other vintages of Sassicaia 1994201320102008

It is a characteristic of Sassicaia to expect great results even in these less celebrated vintages. And this tendency was even more reinforced in the last decade. Sassicaia is intense, concentrated and deep ruby colour. Very complex and elegant on the nose, with scents of red fruits.
Strong, concentrated, with sweet and balanced tannins on the palate. Very long finish with very important organoleptic and poliphenolic aspects, which will ensure to this wine an extraordinary longevity.

Just drunk. Nothing to say, wine perfect with no defects.
Not worth the cost, however. Absolutely not good value for money. With that money you can buy other wines. Price is right for me 60 euro.
