When the heat comes, is the wine over?

by Marta

I disagree with the statement “when the heat comes, buy wine is over.” It is true that beer is a tough opponent for the grape juice in the coming months, especially when taking a walk we found that almost all the terraces we see in our way look like scenes of a beer commercial.

But we do not have to be alarmed because there are solutions to continue enjoying our favorite wines in and summer, of course! When temperatures rise, drinking a thick, dense, dark, powerful red wine may be our last wish… we feel like for something cooler. No problem, we can order a white wine, for instance a Riesling, a Sauvignon Blanc, an Albariño … mmmmhhhhhh! It has to be served chilled in a glass ad hoc and it will leave us with a colorful sensation: freshness, fruit and flowers notes, aroma … beers cannot be compared with this.

We can also take advantage of the high temperatures arrival to vary a bit and try some rosé wines, which seems to be forgotten by us during the year. Protos Rosado 2011, Marqués de Riscal or Enate, three Spanish figures that can compete with other rosés such as an Italian Lambrusco de Emilia, an Australian as the Massena Rosé 2007 or a French one like Tavel Les Eglantiers 2009.

We cannot miss the sparkling wines in this classification. These wines are usually perfect for long warm afternoons, for those who do not want to end the after – lunch and for snacks with a touch of chic.

People who like to experiment and are not afraid of the mixtures can opt for cocktails including wine in his compositions. The spanish Sangría is perhaps the most famous and exported one, but the Rebujito (dry sherry with some sort of soda like 7Up or Sprite), the Agua de Valencia (Cava, gin, vodka, orange juice and sugar) or the Tinto de Verano (red wine and soda) can compare favorably with it in this mediterranean country. A little less glamorous are Calimotxo (wine and coke) and Zurracapote (red or rosé wine with lemons, oranges, sugar, cinnamon and some berry liquor), which every youngster has ever tried.

In any case, we can always find a good time to enjoy our favorite red wine at a barbecue, a nice dinner or just because during the afternoon or after dinner. In addition, we can always choose young red wines that can be served a bit extra chilled and seem to fancy a little more. This is the perfect opportunity to discover new promising wines and start finding those wines which will be our next favorite for next winter or the coming years.

Anyway, if you don’t like wine in summer, we can suggest you a few options:

Heineken, a green magical brand

Budweiser, the american original.
