Although currently the processes that mark the wine elaboration have changed a lot, we can still notice some flaws in a wine we consume. Either by oxidation, strong smell or some strange taste, is not always easy to identify the most common faults in wine. Let’s know what they are.
Taste of vinegar. Surely you’ve noticed sometimes a little sour taste in wine. It is also often said that “wine became sour”, and this may be due to poor maturation process, among other issues. keep in mind that when you note this odour or taste, if you’re in a restaurant, let them know about it to check how many bottles are in this state.
Lees. You might see a lot of sediment in a particular wine and think that it’s defective. But the truth is that many times is normal, something used to keep some of the qualities of wine. It is true that lees will give some bitter taste and darker or different colour. We must learn to appreciate it.
Carbon dioxide. It is when the wines have a gas smell. This is possible when an unwanted pre-fermentation process starts inside the bottle.
Cork. Sometimes it may seem that wine has some smell of cork. This is not real because cork does not smell, and it’s due to a mouldy smell when cork contains some kinds of bacteria. It is difficult to remove this odour and it can affect the entire wine. There may be one in 15 bottles of wine with mouldy smell, so the problem is more common than you may think.
Excess of oxidation. It is another flaw of wine. With oxygenation, we know that wine has been excessively in contact with air. This makes colour and taste to be somewhat different. It is a major problem because you can’t do anything to fix it.
In any case, today we recommend you some wines that will delight you. And you won’t find in them any of the flaws listed above. Cheers!
