Château Ksara Château Bekaa Valley 2015

TASTING NOTES:

  • View: A rich ruby red.
  • Nose: A cloud of red and black fruit, blackcurrant and raspberry predominantly, with an echo of vanilla.
  • Mouth: Balanced and mellow tannins grow rounder from entry to finish, developing into a spice and leather complexity. Long, powerful, retaining weight while still fine and fruity.

APPELLATION: Bekaa

VINEYARD: Château Ksara, in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, with an average altitude of 1000 meters and stony soils composed of chalk, clay, or limestone. No irrigation is necessary as the area has a natural water table; melting snow runs down from the Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon mountains to the valley and its slopes. This is a unique microclimate, with hot, arid summer days offset by cool nights.

GRAPES: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot

AGEING: 12 months in new oak casks, varietals separated, before blending and bottling.

PREPARATION: Wider than usual variations in daytime and nighttime temperatures led to a long period of ripening and an exceptional vintage in 2015; the grapes retained their vibrant acidity even as they matured impressively. Each varietal was vatted separately, fermented at 28-30°C, then left for 15-25 days of aging before malolactic fermentation. The drawn-off wine and presses remained in separate vats over winter, to release them from lees prior to casking.

PAIRING: Game, red meat, dishes with rich sauces. You might enjoy Château Ksara Château Bekaa Valley 2015 with Steak and Kidney Pie.

RECOMMENDED SERVING TEMPERATURE: 16-18°C. Allow to breathe and settle before serving to experience its full character.

ALCOHOL: 14%

I bought it here in Uvinum.
Violet red colour of a young wine. The smell of violets, cherry and licorice was noticeable. It's quite dense, I liked it.
