Caves de São João Reserva Particular 1964

Established in 1920 by the brothers José, Manuel and Albano Costa, the wine-cellars Caves São João are a family company that, in its beginnings was dedicated to the commercialization of fine wines of the Douro region and liqueurs. This company, which is nowadays the most ancient wine-producing family company in full activity in the district of Anadia, turned to the production and commercialization of table wines from Bairrada after a bill passed in the 30s prohibited the production of Oporto Wines outside the area of Vila Nova de Gaia. In the 50’s, the company launches one of best known brands of Bairrada region – “Frei João” – followed by the no less famous “Porta dos Cavaleiros”, from the Dão region.

Caves de São João Reserva Particular 1964

I bought several bottles o f Caves de São João Reserva Particular on this page.
It had a deep colour at first sight. Toffee notes can be appreciated. I noticed an exquisite fruit flavour.

I think the best pairing would be with meat. My best friend had tried it and she recommended it to me.
Slight red cherry tones . Main smell of roses. The 1980 tastes a little bit oily in the mouth.

The Caves São João Reserva Particular was far better than the food. A wine to enjoy with a friend.
Red ruby colour with reddish brown edges. Aromas of licorice and violet. On the palate reminiscent of leather, slightly burned vanilla.

We drank it at a meeting with friends.
You can see in Caves São João Reserva Particular a low layer. It smells toasty . kind of salty aftertaste in the end.
We did not choose the proper food, but the wine was good.
