Château Climens 1998

Climens Castle is located in the Barsac appellation. The soil of this area is a unique entity. Its red soil based on a cracked limestone base that induces an excellent natural drainage. This exceptional terroir promotes early development of "Botrytis cinerea" and his favorite grape, Semillon, finds a truly fabulous expression. Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the Lurton family conquered by the finesse of its wines acquired the estate in 1971. Today, it is still that passionate family which continues the magic, ensuring that legendary vintage still shines with more brilliance and elegance.

Château Climens Blanc

Château Climens, owned by the Lurton family since 1971, is arguably one of the greatest sweet wines in the world. Its vineyards cover 30 hectares planted with Semillon. The soil consists of fine gravel and red sand resting on a base of limestone. The average age of the vines is about 35 years with an annual turnover of around 3 to 4%. The yield remains one of the lowest in the label to obtain a single concentration. The pickers choose carefully enough botrytis cinerea rich grapes (the famous noble rot of Sauternes). After fermentation in oak barrels, the wine is aged for two years before being bottled. Climens castle stands out for its power and smoothness, developing intense aromas of citrus and exotic fruits. A very sweet wine with aging potential is several decades in great vintages. He definitely has the power and the fat one Sauternes and finesse and nervousness of a Barsac

A very good Climens, great finesse, very successful wine for this difficult vintage. It has a simple, slightly malic bouquet at first, almost Germanic in style, scents of yellow flowers emerging with time, coalescing and gaining more richness. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous entry. There appears to be more botrytis here and certainly more weight on the fresh finish that is tinged with barley sugar, betraying.Barsac origins.

Sweet white hairline and air Climens is a subtle wine that is like no other. If he expresses the essence of Barsac for its balance and freshness, it also has the power and magnificence of the greatest Sauternes. Climens may be defined primarily by shrapnel, depth, conferred by its unique terroir. This particular grace given voltage and minerality is accompanied by an extraordinary aromatic palette, mixing flowers, fruits, spices and often a eucalyptus tip or minty freshness. Whatever the vintage, the wines age slowly and keep decades harmonious blend of sweetness and freshness that make their inimitable charm.
Château Climens It is known for the freshness and minerality of its terroir. Its aromatic complexity, which never hurts to finesse, you will cross at the option of aging, white citrus, fresh fruit and sweet spices and fruit

I had it alone. It was a birthday present for my friend.
Typical opacity of a Château Climens. I think it was correct.
