The "Monfortino" is made only in the best vintages and a selection of the best grapes from the vineyard. Warm aromas of plums, rose petals and spice with hints of sandalwood. A little tar. Full-bodied, dense central palate with glorious fruit and a fantastic finish. Very, very polished and fine tannins. A great Monfortino and here we continue not ado. The Montfortino is Chateau Petrus from Piedmont. Extremely well, sparse and with an almost unlimited life. The 2013 has received 98-100 points from Parker and 99 points from James Suckling

A Barolo reserve, indeed an "Extra Barolo" or "Stravecchio", as it appears on the labels in the belly and neck of the bottles from the '20 and '30 (up to 1941 included) and then replaced by "Barolo Reserve" (on belly) and "Reserve" (on neck). The Monfortino was born then as wine produced only in great vintages, from the choice of the best grapes bought in the vineyards of Serralunga and Monforte (the latter city is still on debate), and vinified in a"dedicated" manner. First became popular abroad than in Italy, which sold especially to doctors and university professors from Turin and Milan: in some of the most historic wineries, by the end of the '50, appears the format of 12.5 l of Monfortino - the legendary quarter-Brenta - reserved for the finest wines.

Giacomo Conterno Barolo Riserva Monfortino G. Conterno 1999
I recommend to pair it with "Pinchos" or "Tapas". It's always good to share wine, but this one's special.
Red intense cherry colour and high layer. Raspberry flavour. It was light but tasted like blackberries.
