This wine is the most representative wines of Barbaresco produced by Angelo Gaja.Installé in the Piedmont region of Italy, Gaja area is renowned for its development of techniques that revolutionized winemaking Italian wines. Steeped in the Italian wine landscape for over five generations, the estate produces wines of Piedmont since 1859, when Giovanni Gaja founded the Gaja Winery. His son, Angelo (grandfather of the current owner) continues the work under the influence of his wife, Clothilde Rey inspires to create a real Gaja signed tradition. From their union a son born Giovanni will continue to track his parents by producing Barbaresco famous throughout Italy. Giovanni will further extend the vineyard by buying vineyards as Tildin, Costa Russi, San Lorenzo etc. allowing the Gaja family will produce wines of incredible quality only from its own vineyards, she never buys grapes trading. The current owner, Angelo Gaja was born in 1940 and began his career field at the age of 21 in 1961. After several trips to France, he introduced several practices in the region and has revolutionized winemaking of Nebbiolo. Since 1970, Angelo Gaja working with the famous oenologist Guido Rivella. This is also the first house to use barrels new French oak which have improved the quality of wine by relaxing the harsh tannins of Nebbiolo to bring out all its finesse. This was also the first winemaker to plant Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc instead of Nebbiolo, to the detriment of his father. This besides, the sight of these varieties of imports would have said in the vineyard "Damagi" meaning "what a pity" and gave his name to the Cabernet planted by Angelo Gaja, now recognized as one of best Cabernet in the world. Very controversial, Angelo Gaja has always been ahead of its time and sees things in a different way compared to the other. He strongly contributed to the development of the Piedmont wines and especially the wines Barolo and Barbaresco on his place among the best Italian wines in the world.

Gaja Barbaresco Langhe 2012

Gorgeous cherry and high layer. Aromas of cherry, liquorice. It predominated roasted flavours.
Delicious with grilled meat and vegetables.
I chose Gaja Barbaresco Langhe for a romantic dinner with my partner.

My partner paired it with several snacks. Was a good idea. A Gaja to drink among friendly people.
A red Bordeaux . You can appreciate the tobacco smell. It tasted like wood.

As a coincidence I visited the winery and I bought a few boxes.
Bright cherry colour, high layer. It smelled of oak. Taste of ripe fruit in the mouth.

Red base colour with violet hints. Aromas of dried fruits.Fruity taste.
I recommend to taste it with prosciutto.
