L'Etoile Banyuls Grand Cru 2010 (Carignan and Grenache)

TASTING NOTES:

  • View: copper.
  • Nose: delicately spicy.
  • Mouth: aromas of crystallized fruits and honey.

APPELLATION: Banyuls Grand Cru.

VINEYARD: detrital soil, shale primary era (Cambrian) and granita micaschista.

GRAPES: Grenache Carignan 85% and 15%.

AGEING: aged in old oak vats for at the least 30 months.

PREPARATION: a tank is filled exclusively with Grenache Noir, a second tank receives the other grape varieties. Grapes de-stemmed and crushed. Fortification of the grapes followed by a maceration of 3 weeks with the alcohol. Hydraulic presses made by pressing traditional vertical. Mix 2 tanks after the first winter.

A peculiarity of the Banyulus is the so-called flavor "Rancio" that develops after a long period oxidative (15 \ 20 years).
The combinations are many, you can drink chilled as an aperitif, accompanying worthily fois gras or meat dishes cooked with red berries and is ideal with cheeses.
Round and well balanced, this Grand Cru has a very interesting copper-coloured with hints of tobacco. The smell is rich and delicately spicy, with aromas of crystallized fruits and honey in mouth.
