Quinta dos Abibes Reserva 2014 (Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional)

  • View: Quinta dos Abibes Reserva 2014 has a crystalline garnet colour with violet highlights.
  • Nose: Intense fruity aromas greet the nose, marked by the scents of blueberries and blackberries, and a subtle toast undertone with a nice, floral finish.
  • Mouth: Sweet fruity flavour with nice and elegant tannins setting the tone. The finish is medium, with the aftertaste of spiced wood.

VINEYARD: Quinta Dos Abibes. The history of this vineyard dates back to the 18th century, but was in fact a neglected land until 2003, when the current owners took control of the terrain and optimized it for the production of the most exclusive Portuguese varieties. A total of ten hectares of land comprise the estate, seven of which are dedicated to vineyards.

GRAPES: 50% Touriga Nacional and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon.

AGEING: Twelve months in French oak barrels followed by six months in the bottle prior to commercialization.

PREPARATION: The grapes are harvested and selected before being destemmed and subjected to a soft and prolonged skin maceration process. The must is then fermented at a controlled temperature of 28°C, and then left to complete the maturation stage in French oak barrels, 70% new and 30% of second use. The wine is then bottled and left for an additional ageing time before hitting the market.

PAIRING: Ideal to be served with roasted fish, pasta, and soft cheeses.

ALCOHOL: 13.5%

Quinta Dos Abibes

The vineyard includes 10 hectares of land and is situated on the foothills of the Sierra Buçaco, county Anadia. After 12 years of total neglect, in 2003 it became subject of a plan of agricultural engineering (soil drainage) which entailed the planting of the vineyards.

I opened the bottle for my best friend.
It had an intense colour. Noticeable aromas of cherry and licorice. I liked its acidity.
It is so good that it is best taken alone.
